This track was originally created for a submission to the 2021 Valentine's day Celeste mapping competition.

The theme of the competition was "connections", so I thought it would be cool to create music for the level using a generative modular synthesizer. In this case, I used VCV Rack to emulate a hardware synth. The song itself is a raw recording of the synth with a few volume edits to make the song appropriate for a looping video game environment. Manual changes to the synth parameters during recording were used, but sparingly.

The kick drum and high-hat were both created using high-resonance filters being modulated by envelopes. Each part of the melody used an oscillator whose pitch was controlled by a randomly fluctuating voltage being pushed through a quantizer. Rest notes were generated using randomized switch modules.


This song was recorded on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples.
